12" Dutch oven

  • 2½ to 3 cups bread flour
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • Parchment paper

Egg Wash:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon water

In a medium bowl mix the sourdough starter with flour, sour cream and salt. Stir until the dough pulls away from the sides of the mixing bowl.Turn the dough out onto a flat surface sprinkled with bread flour. Knead the dough, allowing it to absorb the flour. Add more flour as needed to keep dough from sticking. Knead very thoroughly. Once kneading is completed, cover the dough and let it rise in a warm area for two to three hours or until double in bulk.

Once the dough has risen punch it down and knead lightly, form into a round loaf. Cut parchment paper to fit bottom of Dutch oven. Place bread in Dutch oven and allow to rise.

Beat the egg, water and salt together and brush gently over the top of the dough prior to baking.

Bake for 50 minutes or until golden brown.
